Kim Kash and her husband Michael Cooney own Greenbelt Om. Kim began practicing yoga in 1999. Before Greenbelt Om, she was piecing together a yoga practice that included three very different, scattered yoga classes per week. One of them was a lunchtime yoga class that she organized in a spare room at Daedalus Books, her former employer.
Kim's background is in bookselling, marketing, and non-profit management. The opening of Greenbelt Om is a new step in Kim's continuing commitment to her hometown. She is the president of the Roosevelt Center Merchants Association, and co-founder of the Greenbelt Farmers Market, which open June 8, 2008. Kim has been a volunteer in her community with Greenbelt Homes, Inc., at the New Deal Café, and served as the facilities manager for the Greenbelt Arts Center during the period in which the lobby was renovated into a gallery space.
Kim and her husband Michael are both second-generation Greenbelters. Michael is a paramedic, a faculty member at University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and a volunteer medic at the Greenbelt Volunteer Fire Department. Kim and Michael share their dog, Baxter, with a variety of friends and neighbors, who can often be seen getting towed around town by the high-stepping shelter mutt.
It is an honor and a great blessing for Kim to be able to offer a serene and sacred space for yoga practice in Greenbelt.
